Genaro Resendiz's blog ::Bang the Champ: Tampa Has a Football Team. They're Even Good.

The               Tampa               Bay               Buccaneers               are               definitely               in               a               rebuilding               mode.

Gone               are               the               dominant               defenses               and               the               steady               running               game.

The               National               Football               League               is               a               game               of               phases,               as               a               team               can               go               from               dominant               to               doormat               in               just               a               few               years.

Tampa               Bay               was               a               terrible               team               for               many               years               before               they               finally               put               together               a               winning               program               that               won               the               Super               Bowl               in               2002.

However,               that               was               a               few               years               ago               and               the               Bucs               are               now               moving               on               to               a               different               era               of               Tampa               Bay               football.

With               that               in               mind,               here               are               a               few               thoughts               on               the               Tampa               Bay               Buccaneers               and               their               prospects               for               the               2010               NFL               season.

When               the               Buccaneers               have               the               ball
Josh               Freeman               took               more               snaps               than               any               other               quarterback               on               the               roster               in               2009,               but               Tampa               Bay               definitely               had               a               quarterback-by-committee               situation.

Freeman               certainly               wasn't               dominant,               as               he               threw               for               less               than               1,900               yards               with               10               touchdowns               and               18               interceptions.

He               shared               the               quarterbacking               duties               with               Josh               Johnson               and               Byron               Leftwich.

The               running               game               was               solid,               but               not               great               as               Cadillac               Williams               was               the               featured               back.

Kellen               Winslow               led               the               receivers               with               77               catches,               but               he               didn't               get               a               lot               of               help               from               the               rest               of               the               receiving               roster.

Unless               the               Bucs               draft               an               impact               offensive               player,               they               may               not               do               much               better               at               scoring               points               in               2010.

In               2009,               they               ranked               30th               in               the               league               by               scoring               only               15.2               points               per               game.
When               the               Buccaneers               are               on               defense
On               defense,               Tampa               Bay               wasn't               much               better.

The               Bucs               were               last               in               the               league               against               the               run,               and               while               they               were               10th               against               the               pass,               they               still               gave               up               25               points               per               game.

This               was               good               for               27th               in               the               National               Football               League.

Barrett               Ruud               is               still               a               great               tackler,               and               Tanard               Jackson               and               Aquib               Talib               each               got               five               picks.

However,               there               just               weren't               enough               impact               players               up               and               down               the               defensive               roster               and               young               coach               Raheem               Morris               will               need               a               lot               more               production               from               his               defense               if               Tampa               Bay               is               going               to               return               to               prominence.
               Predictions
Overall,               do               not               expect               the               Tampa               Bay               Buccaneers               to               come               roaring               back               in               2010.

The               team               has               a               long               way               to               go               in               a               lot               of               areas               and               they               will               have               to               compete               with               the               Super               Bowl               champion               New               Orlean               Saints               and               the               Atlanta               Falcons               in               the               NFC               South.

Teams               can               certainly               rebuild               through               the               draft               and               free               agency,               but               they               still               have               to               make               good               decisions.

The               Bucs               may               take               a               positive               step               in               2010,               but               nothing               is               guaranteed               in               the               NFL.
